Dr Fabian Graham’s first degree (1994-7) was in jewellery design from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design.

Dr Fabian Graham has been researching Chinese religion in Taiwan since 2007, in Singapore since 2010, and in Malaysia, China and Thailand Since 2015. He holds an MA in ‘Taiwan studies’ from National Chengchi University in Taipei; an MPhil in ‘social anthropological analysis’ from Cambridge University, UK, and a PhD in ‘social anthropology’ from the University of London. He has worked as a research fellow at the ‘Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity’ in Germany, and at the ‘Asia Research Institute’ at the ‘National University of Singapore’ where he remains a temporary associate of the ‘Religion and Globalisation’ research cluster. His research interests include the anthropology of Chinese religion; metaphysics and semiotics; understandings, perceptions and subjective experiences of the discarnate; luck and fate in context of religion, neuroscience and the psychology of decision making; and new approaches to ethnographic research and its academic narration. 

At present he is an independent researcher, and busy writing two new academic monographs on deity cults in Taiwan and in Southeast Asia.
